Black-Necked Grebe by David Braddock

Following 3 years of research and over 180 field trips in the South East of England, South East Bird Tours was started at the end of 2005. Operating from Ashford in Middlesex, we are close to Heathrow Airport (and within 1 hour of all the major London Airports and main-line London Train Stations).

I am the principal tour guide for South East Bird Tours and have a wealth of local and national knowledge. I have been birdwatching for over 30 years and have considerable experience in finding and identifying birds in the UK. I was born in Scotland and have lived in the South East of England for 14 years. Birdwatching has been a passion since childhood and has stayed with me ever since.

The South East of England has a large variety of habitats and holds many species of birds. The species present, constantly change with the seasons. Over the years, our chosen counties of Kent, Surrey and the borough of Greater London have recorded almost 400 species of birds. To explain this you only have to look at the various habitats found in these counties. These habitats include extensive coastline, marshes, heathland, farmland, mixed woodlands and numerous inland water bodies, including the River Thames. These cover most of the key habitats found in the UK.

We look forward to helping all levels of birders to this most enjoyable of hobbies. Beginners are more than welcome to join any of our tours. You will not be disappointed.
